Tsz Shiou Senior High School Introduction

HISTORY
Tsz Shiou Senior High School was founded by Mr. Chen Li-an, following in the footsteps of his father, former Vice-President Chen Cheng. Both shared the same vision: Nurture the future generations in Taiwan through quality education. With the help of the sponsorship by the Board of Directors of Mr. Chen Cheng Scholarship Foundation and donations from all walks of life, the school was built in March of 1971 where it is still located at Sanxia District in New Taipei City. The school was named “Tsz Shiou Senior High School” in honor of Mr. Chen Cheng whose courtesy name was “Tsz Shiou”.
Soon the School Board was formed, and Chen Cheng’s wife Mrs. Chen Tan-Hsiang was elected as the first president of the board. By August of 1971, the mission of nurturing young talents began as seven classes of tenth grade students were admitted. Then 25 years later, the Junior High School Division was established in response to The Nine-Year Compulsory Education System, and eight classes of seventh grade students were admitted in August of 1996.

THE SCHOOL SEAL
The emblem of Tsz Shiou Senior School is designed to depict the ear of a grain of rice. It symbolizes “agriculture” – the foundation of Chinese people. We believe that only when the farmers are well-fed can the people be rich, and the society can develop. In fact, without the series of measures made to promote and advance the farmers, Taiwan would not have been able to take off economically and become one of the Four Asian Tigers. Tsz Shiou Senior High School goes back to this idea as its core.
The same value on agriculture was exemplified by Mr. Chen Cheng when he was the Chairman of Taiwan’s Provincial Government. In April of 1949, on the recommendation of the JCRR1, Mr. Chen Cheng initiated the “Regulations on the Lease of Private Farmland in Taiwan Province” and began to implement a series of agricultural policies such as “375 Rent Reduction”, “Release of Government-Owned Tillable Land to Self-tilling Farmers”, and “Land-to-the-Tiller Program” in the hope of reducing the burden of tenants. These policies helped to elevate the farmers in Taiwan.
To this day, the importance of agriculture in the history of Taiwan is alive in Tsz Shiou Senior High’s seal. It serves to remind future generations of how agriculture had laid the foundation of what is now an industrialized progressive economy. By understanding the roots of the nation's success from the school's emblem, we hoped that the students will also appreciate the value of what they are enjoying now.

CURRENTLY
With the efforts of the current president, Ms. Chen, Tsao-Shin, and the former principals and teachers, the school now has more than 1,100 students and 31 classrooms, three dormitories for boys and two dormitories for girls, and a kitchen and cafeteria that can provide meals for all students and teachers.

FUTURE GOALS
Tsz Shiou Senior High School plans to establish an international exchange program to provide its students with the opportunity to apply for admission in universities in Europe and the United States.  The school also aims to include exchange programs for foreign students to learn Chinese to broaden the international perspective of its students.
